Solid country spindle dining chairs are the main business of Amish woodworkers in America. Solid oak wood spindle dining chairs are made by first drying the solid hardwood lumber and spinning the chair legs with a woodworking lathe and template. Spindle chairs are steam bent to fit into the pegs on the wood seats. Sometimes the solid wood spindles are glued in place and some are only screwed.
These Amish built economy chairs our the entry line priced chairs. They have more of a country feel to them. Amish Dining chairs are all built from solid wood construction, tennon and screwed joints for strength. The entry line often has "thinner" spindles on the wood than the arts and crafts style.
Amish barstools also have leather seats. By adding a leather seat to a barstool you actually add about 1 inch of height to the seat from the padding. Please factor this into your buying decision as the barstool arm chair heights will be "lower". The Amish woodworkers do not change the height of the arms on a solid wood arm barstool.
Shipping has always been an important issue when building Amish solid wood barstools. The barstools vary in height from 36" to nearly 50" tall barstools and is makes for a large delivery. We actually box each tall barstool with spray foam to limit any damage concerns before shipping to a local dock in your area. Some of our longest shipping trips are Amish furniture California and the long trip for Amish furiture to Alaska.
